Guarantee and conformity

What you are entitled to if something is wrong with what we sent you, and — because this matters for printed patterns — where the line sits between a fault and ordinary wear.

No fixed number of years

Wettelijke garantie

Your legal rights under Dutch law are not limited to a fixed number of years. How long a product must last depends on what you can reasonably expect from it. Any commercial guarantee we offer is in addition to those rights, never instead of them.

This is why you will not find a “two-year guarantee” anywhere on this site. Dutch law does not work that way, and quoting a fixed number would understate what you are actually entitled to on a product expected to last longer — or overstate it on one expected to last less.

What counts as reasonable depends on the product, the price and what we told you about it. A pair of everyday cotton socks worn twice a week is judged on that basis.

What conformity means

Conformiteit

What we deliver has to match what we described and do what you can reasonably expect of it. That covers the fibre composition we stated, the pattern we showed you, the size you ordered and the workmanship.

If it does not, you are entitled to have it repaired or replaced free of charge. If that is impossible or disproportionate, or we fail to do it within a reasonable time, you can have the price reduced or the contract dissolved and your money back.

Who has to prove what

Bewijslast

If a fault shows up within one year of delivery, the law assumes it was already there when you received it. We would have to prove otherwise. You do not have to prove anything.

After that first year the assumption reverses and you would need to show the fault was present at delivery. Your underlying right does not expire at that point — only the presumption does.

Fading, cracking and the line between them

Kleurechtheid

Gradual fading over many washes is wear. A pattern cracking or peeling within the first few wears is a fault.

Printed and dyed textiles lose some colour intensity over their life. That is a property of the material, not a defect, and it is why we tell you to wash new socks separately the first time. Some concrete examples of each side of the line:

Ordinary wear — not a fault

  • · The pattern is visibly softer in tone after twenty or thirty washes.
  • · A dark pattern transferred a little colour onto light shoes the first time it was worn, before the first wash.
  • · The sole has gone grey with use.
  • · Fine surface pilling on the leg after a season of wear.

A fault — covered

  • · The printed pattern cracks or flakes off within the first few wears.
  • · The pattern washes out almost completely in a single wash at 30°C.
  • · Colour transfers heavily onto skin or bedding after correct first washing.
  • · A seam opens, a hole appears at the toe or heel early in the sock’s life.
  • · The fibre composition does not match what the label and the product page state.

If you are unsure which side of that line you are on, send us a photograph at support@socksource.shop. We would rather look at it than have you guess.

Things that are not faults

Geen gebrek

Left and right differing by design. Two of our products are made that way on purpose and say so at the top of the product page, in the cart, at checkout and on the packaging.

A printed texture not feeling like the texture it depicts. The Texture Illusion line imitates cable, tweed, denim, marble, wood grain and corduroy as printed drawings. Each of those product pages states that it is a printed pattern, not the actual texture.

Neither of these removes your right to withdraw from the purchase. See the right of withdrawal page.

How to make a claim

Een beroep doen

Email support@socksource.shop or call +31 85 0160421 with your order reference and a photograph of the problem. You do not need to keep the original packaging.

We acknowledge within 14 days and aim to resolve within 30. If we agree it is a fault, we pay the return postage.

Any commercial guarantee

Handelsgarantie

If we ever offer a commercial guarantee on a product, it will be stated on that product and it will be in addition to your statutory rights, never instead of them. We do not currently offer one.
